. Larry Fain .

LarrySome might take offense at being described as an aging, bald, ugly, fat guy, but I do not. We all age, except Stan who, contrary to all his bellyaching about aches (he really doesn’t know yet about the pains of getting older), so aging is not bad. It beats the alternative, right? Bald? Self induced here, but since I am a semi-respected business man now, I am no longer slick. Ugly? Hey - look at the pic, and I have to look at that mug every morning. What a terrible thought! Now the fat guy thing I bring up to announce that unless you knew me in 1983, you have never seen me as small as I am now. I am now listed on the liver transplant list, (prayers solicited and greatly appreciated) so the weight loss was and remains essential. It helps when they draw off over 15 pounds of abdominal fluid at one sitting. That is what a sick liver can do for you.

The greatest joys in my life are my children. Jeremy (age 30) works in sales in Houston for a plumbing wholesaler. He has the job I had in 1976 with the same company. He has far surpassed me in ability and performance. Erin (better not give her age, but she is 3 years younger than her brother) is an accomplished accountant with a big company in Wichita, Kansas and has a new photography business (photosbyerin.com). She is an absolutely amazing photographer! No two offspring could have provided any more joy for their dad than these two have. They are a living testimony of the fabulous job their mother (Jeanne) did all those years when I was preaching, writing, and learning about computers, which I did so later I could teach Stan how to turn one on.

Lest I be blasphemous, let me not forget my HOUSTON ASTROS! Since 1962, I have lived and died with this team every summer, no matter where I lived. I have learned the real meaning of “maybe next year.”

As I mentioned I am now back in Houston working in the family business which my dad and brothers started in 1977. We put plumbing in buildings. No, I can’t fix your leaky faucet. We put it in new and pray it lasts for one year, which it does most all the time. Dad being 91 now has long since retired, but my 2 older brothers have carried on the business and together have three sons also in the business. I am a purchasing agent and basically do whatever my brothers do not want to do. I love being back home where I was raised. Houston is a magnificent city, but most of all it is home.

When I was at the very lowest point in my life, Stan Cox and his wonderful family were willing to extend their hands of love and friendship without compromising God’s truth. He is the consummate professional at what he does. I will remember and love the Cox family every day of my life. They are Christian! Look it up. It is a unique term describing unique people. The Lord said few would find the narrow way. Stan, Debbie, Joshua, Kendra, Kaleigh, and Jeremiah Cox have found it and live it.

Politics is easy. Read the Constitution. I do not think there is a copy “inside the beltway”, but most of us are not there either, so we can read it and elect people who know what it says or at least can be taught and are willing to learn. That is conservatism 101. There WILL BE a test. This year the test date is November 4. DO NOT FAIL!

Thanks for reading and do listen. I will try not to get in Stan’s way of making Watchman Digest a great listen.
