Watchman Digest, Episode 8

Watchman Digest

Old Men, Pregnant Men, and Pac-Men

Hosts: Larry Fain & Stan Cox

Will Hillary Clinton become Secretary of State?  And What is it about politicians fighting and then making up?  Are they a bunch of phonies?  Stan and Larry also discuss some of the absurd examples of social decay and disorder.

Show Notes:

  • Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State? Will she accept the appointment?  And why is she and Obama chummy all of a sudden, after all the vitriol of the Democrat primaries?
  • “Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled.” Larry and Stan discuss the text of John 14:1-ff, and the fact that we as Christians should continue to trust in God, regardless of the circumstances of our lives, and those of our country.
  • Disturbing News and Absurdities. Stan brings up three examples which show just how bad our society has gotten, and he and Larry discuss each in turn.
  • Stan’s Weekly Rant: The “Big Fish in a Small Pond Syndrom.”  We are talking here about Pride, which can be so very destructive. Stan discusses the problem, and the cure.  To read Stan’s rant, click here!
  • Larry’s Bible Verse: Rather than a verse this week, Larry instead gives tribute to a fine Christian lady, Ovie Henderson of Florence, AL, who has passed on to her reward.
  • Stan’s Website Review: The SeekYe1st search engine.  Created by Thomas Keese of Wichita, KS, this search engine indexes a large number of web sites authored by Christians to give perhaps the best and most complete resource of sound Bible study materials to be found at any one site on the internet.

Thanks, Larry, for the University of North Alabama mention. As a mostly proud alumnus, I will add this.

The third ranked North Alabama Lions dominated the first half and cruised to a 37-10 win over 13th ranked Valdosta State to advance to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Lions quest for a national title will continue next Saturday in Cleveland, Miss., as the Lions take on Delta State.

    Jeff -
My daughter is also a UNA grad. I grow tired of hearing about the Bobby Wallace days, however, even though I lived there during that time. I am ready for a NEW championship for the Lions. I miss several things from my North Alabama experience (some I wish I could forget, too), but having championship fever hit a small town like Florence was a thrill!! I am excited about the prospects of another D-2 title.

Stan, you can be happy there is no smoke, but you can’t be happy there’s a smoking ban. Additionally, a resturant is NOT a public place.

Jim (Naffel), As usual, by being precise you are able to clarify. You make a good point. Regarding a restaurant not being public, I understand the point. It is a private establishment, which is what Larry argued. However, it “receives” the “public”, which is what I meant. When I am eating at my house, I am in a private place. When I am in a restaurant, I am around other people, hence in a public place. And, I don’t like it when other people, in private or public, blow smoke my way!
