Obama’s Disingenuous Answer on Abortion

In the October 15th debate, Barack Obama was disingenuous in giving his answer to the question regarding his voting against the anti-abortion measure in the Illinois state legislature.  His words, verbatim, were, “If it sounds incredible that I would vote to withhold lifesaving treatment from an infant, that’s because it’s not true.”

The word disingenuous means, according to Webster, “lacking in candor.”  It indicates that a person is not being forthcoming about his real beliefs.  In other words, he is being dishonest.

Obama has been dishonest in the way he has presented himself to the American people.  And I’ll prove it to you.

He says that he would not vote to withhold lifesaving treatment from an infant.  What he did not say on this occasion, though he said so on another occasion, is that he does not believe that aborted fetus to be an infant!  For too long he has been allowed to define in his own unique and abominable way, what an infant is.  Consider this quote, from a speech he made on the floor of the Illinois state legislature in 2001.

“Number one, whenever we define a previable fetus as a person that is protected by the equal protection clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we’re really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a – a child, a nine-month-old – child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place. I mean, it – it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an antiabortion statute.”

Let me put it in plain language you can understand.  We let a woman and her doctor rip a fetus from the womb.  In Obama’s distorted reality, when that “thing” is laid amidst the bloody linens, struggling to breathe, it is not an infant.  That “thing”, though it has a weakly beating heart, is not an infant.  That “thing” which may continue to breathe on its own, and maintain a heartbeat for hours despite being left alone, without medical help, without sustenance, without warmth or embrace, is not an infant because it is not going to live.  Since it will die soon, it is not an infant.  It is not a person!

Well, Mr. Obama, that “thing” is breathing right now… It’s heart has not yet stopped beating, though the Doctor has done his very best to destroy it.  So, tell me, Mr. Obama, what is that “thing” if it is not a person.  It has two human eyes, it has a human brain, it has a human heart, it has tiny human lungs that are screaming for air.  Please tell me, sir, what is that “thing?”

Pro-abortion people get angry when you compare their ideology to that of Nazi Germany.  But the parallel is obvious.  You can’t be accused of murder, if you deny that a Jew is a person.  You can’t be accused of murder, if you deny that an aborted fetus, still alive, is a person.  Well, Mr. Obama, you may deny that that “thing” is a person, but your denial does not change the fact.  And the fact is, Mr. Obama, that you do indeed advocate withholding lifesaving treatment to an infant.  And it is despicable.

Some get angry when such sharp criticism is leveled against Mr. Obama.  They claim it is dirty politics, and getting personal, and should not be a part of the national discourse.  Well, I’m not any better than my Savior, and this is what he said about people like Mr. Obama, “Then He said to the disciples, ‘It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come!   It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones’” (Luke 17:1-2).

Mr. Obama, that fetus is not a “thing”, it is a person.  And, your callousness on this one issue would, in any society that truly valued human life, immediately disqualify you from serving as President.
