Disrespectful Children

Do you remember the adults in all of the Charlie Brown TV specials?  They were never seen, and when they spoke offscreen, all you heard was, “Wah, Wah, Wah, Wah, Wah, Wah, Wah.”

Charles Schultz’ point was clear.  In this little universe, it was all about the kids.  Adults existed simply to accommodate Charlie and his friends, and were only tangential to their lives.

And, this seems to be true in our universe as well.  Every day I get in my car to go pick up my children from school.  When driving my car at the school, I constantly have to hit the brakes, and be on the lookout, because the kids are oblivious to the traffic.  The parents in their cars exist to serve them, and they will be looking out for them, so why be concerned?  It seems crazy that a 7th grade boy, weighing in at 100 lbs. soaking wet, with his pants perched halfway down his backside, would stroll insolently across the street, not even acknowledging the 2,000 lb. hunk of metal that has to quickly stop to let him pass.  A honk on the horn gets only a disdainful glance.  Or perhaps, a quick middle finger to impress his friends. Obama’s Disingenuous Answer on Abortion

In the October 15th debate, Barack Obama was disingenuous in giving his answer to the question regarding his voting against the anti-abortion measure in the Illinois state legislature.  His words, verbatim, were, “If it sounds incredible that I would vote to withhold lifesaving treatment from an infant, that’s because it’s not true.”

The word disingenuous means, according to Webster, “lacking in candor.”  It indicates that a person is not being forthcoming about his real beliefs.  In other words, he is being dishonest.

Obama has been dishonest in the way he has presented himself to the American people.  And I’ll prove it to you. Read More…

Political Pandering

What did you think way back in 1992 when you saw Bill Clinton get his saxophone and play with the band on the Arsenio Hall show? Now that’s a blast from the past, isn’t it?

Well, since I am bringing it up, I guess you know how I feel about it. It irritated me, and the presidential candidates who have appeared since on such shows as Oprah, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with David Letterman, the Ellen DeGeneres show, and The View irritate me too!

Now, I know what you are thinking. Stan, they had to appear on these shows, because the public demands it. And, you’re right. In fact, that’s what irritates me so much. Why is it that Presidential candidates have to pander to pop culture? Read More…

Sexism in Sports

Have you ever noticed the rampant sexism that you see in sports?

Last month during the Olympics it was especially noticeable. Interestingly, it was most noticeable to me during the volleyball games. Especially beach volleyball. Now beach volleyball is rather infamous for bikinis, bare chests, beer and boisterous crowds and music. Interestingly, the men in the Olympic competition wore shirts. I have not been able to find out why, perhaps some of our listeners know, and will be able to let us know through the comments at the WD site. But, the women wore the same skimpy bikinis that are the norm on the professional circuit. Read More…
